One of the most famous P-38 photos ever taken and still in publication today.

Flight Leader, 2nd Lt. Bob Kirtley, 95th FS leads 95th FS Staff Sgt. Pilots:

Ralph Embrey #2, Verne Yahne #3, and Graham Jones #4.

Bob Kirtley was one of the six 'original' pilots selected, to fly the first 'three' hand made P-38s.

Bob also recorded the first 'score' for the 82nd Fighter Group when enroute to

North Africa on December 23, 1942 over the Bay of Biscay (Bob Kirtley collection).

This official Lockheed P-38 photo has been reprinted in countless publications through the years.

The photo first appeared on the front cover of the July 12, 1943 issue of NEWSWEEK magazine (Bob Kirtley collection).

Dorothy Kocher/Olsen was a WASP ferry pilot.  She signed the yolk or stick of all the aircraft she ferried.
This is a V-Mail she received from Lt. Rudy Mueller telling her about his new P-38.
